White women in head wraps

The other night, as I returned home from the Franklin train stop – passing one African hair braiding shop after another – I found my self walking behind a white woman rocking a head wrap. She wasn’t just out to empty her trash with a white towel on her head, she had a batik wrap done-up like she was from the continent, head bobbing as she spoke on her cell about her upcoming trip to Mexico where she would perform with her band. She was the second white woman in a head wrap I had seen that week. The first was on a bike and also sported waist beads. Wtf?
